Nursery Planning
When to Buy Your Nursery Chair: A Third-Trimester Timing Guide
There's a real trigger point most parents describe: the third-trimester nesting spike, or the day a C-section date actually gets scheduled. Either way, timing this purchase with some buffer matters more than most nursery items.
Why this one shouldn't wait until the last minute
Unlike smaller items, a power nursery chair often ships in two separate boxes that can arrive days apart, and assembly may need two people - see our full breakdown. Ordering it with only a week or two of buffer risks it not being ready when you need it most.
A reasonable timeline
- 32-34 weeks: order the chair, giving room for delayed second-box shipping
- 34-36 weeks: assemble it, ideally with a second person, while you still have full mobility
- 36+ weeks: set up your "chair caddy" - everything within arm's reach - so it's ready before labor, not after
If a C-section is scheduled
Work backward from the scheduled date rather than your general due date - you'll have a firm timeline instead of an estimate, which makes this planning easier, not harder.
