Night Feeds & Sleep
Setting Up a Low-Light Nursery Routine for Night Feeds
Light is one of the strongest signals a body uses to decide whether it's day or night. A consistent low-light routine at night feeds can make it easier for both you and your baby to fall back asleep quickly afterward.
The core routine
- Use a dim, warm nightlight instead of an overhead light - see our nightlight options guide
- Keep your phone brightness low if you check it during a feed, and avoid scrolling social media, which tends to wake you up more than help you stay calm
- Move quietly and slowly - fast, bright, or loud actions during a night feed can fully wake a baby who was drifting back off
- Skip a full diaper change unless it's genuinely needed - unnecessary stimulation extends the wake window
Why consistency matters more than perfection
Doing roughly the same low-key routine every night helps your baby's body start associating "dim, quiet, calm" with "back to sleep soon" - more than any single element of the routine on its own.
Where your chair fits in
A genuinely quiet chair mechanism supports this whole routine - see our piece on how loud is too loud for what to expect from a power chair specifically.
